Easter

Non-Fiction
Ages 5 to 7
Holiday House, 1989, 0-8234-0866-3
In a day and age when Easter is seen to be all about chocolate treats, egg hunts, and lavish meals, the Easter story is often forgotten. We forget that it is a celebration which is there to remind us of the life and death of Jesus. It is also a celebration which predates the birth of Christ, an ancient and joyful celebration of the coming of spring. For with spring comes new life, new growth, and the beginning of a new season.
With delicacy and sensitivity Gail Gibbons tells the Easter story describing both the Christian and the non-Christian traditions which make up the festival that we enjoy in the present day. Children will be interested to discover where the Easter Bunny story came from and why eggs are such a large part of the celebrations.
This picture book will give small children a real understanding of what Easter is all about.

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) needs your help. The President's proposed fiscal year 2009 budget released in February eliminates the Inexpensive Book Distribution Program, which is the RIF Book Distribution Program. Unless Congress reinstates funding for this program, RIF will be unable to distribute 16 million books annually to the nation's youngest and most at-risk children. RIF serves 4.6 million children. Please click on the link below to visit the RIF Action Alert page so you can make your voice heard and support their efforts.
