Ages 5 to 7

Little Fly is going to school for the first time today. She is nervous and wonders if she is “the only one who eats regurgitated food.” She is very thankful to discover that she is not. In fact she learns all kinds of things about flies during her lessons. For one thing she finds out that flies are extremely skilled fliers and that they beat their wings at an amazing two hundred times per second.

In addition to acquiring an education Fly tries not to get into too many fights with her three hundred and twenty seven brothers and sisters. It is not easy. Thankfully she has her best friends Worm and Spider to spend time with. Fly tells them that she would like to be a superhero but she is not sure she would qualify. Is being able to fly upside down and having amazing eyes that can see in many directions enough?

Readers who enjoyed this team’s previous titles, “Diary of a worm” and “Diary of a Spider” are sure to enjoy this amusing – and incidentally informative – book. Readers might, in fact, find themselves looking at flies with new eyes. At the very least they will have a good laugh and they will enjoy sharing in Fly’s world; a world in which naughty flies get sent to the garage for a time out.

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) needs your help. The President's proposed fiscal year 2009 budget released in February eliminates the Inexpensive Book Distribution Program, which is the RIF Book Distribution Program. Unless Congress reinstates funding for this program, RIF will be unable to distribute 16 million books annually to the nation's youngest and most at-risk children. RIF serves 4.6 million children. Please click on the link below to visit the RIF Action Alert page so you can make your voice heard and support their efforts.
