Danny’s First Snow

Leonid Gore

Picture Book

Ages 4 to 6

Simon and Schuster, 2007, 1-4169-1330-0

One night, as Danny’s mother is reading a story, snow begins to fall outside. Danny has never seen snow before and he wonders what it is. When he goes outside the next morning the whole landscape has changed. Snow covers all the trees, the grass, and the shrubs. In fact many of the trees and shrubs look like snow animals and Danny has a wonderful time playing with them.

Then he notices that some of the snow animals look like wolves. Danny runs away from the wolves just as his mother has always taught him to do. It would seem that snow can be just about anything you want it to be, depending on the state of your imagination and Danny looks forward to having many more snow adventures.

This sweet seasonal picture book will have readers heartily wishing for a heavy snowfall of their own so that they, like Danny, might be able to go outside to play games with imaginary snow creatures. Soft acrylic and pastel illustrations offer readers lovely snow filled scenes to look at as they read and wonder.
