Novelty Kit (Series)

Ages 8 and up

Most of us have at least one thing that we like to collect. People like to collect sea shells, or polished rocks, or stuffed animals, or stamps, or Pez dispensers or… well I could go on forever. This “collection of games, keepsakes, puzzles, and more” is ‘hosted’ by Queen Calliope who is the Queen of Collectopia. She and her subjects are the C’lectomaniacs, small furry pompom creatures who love to collect things. Better still they are always coming up with new things to collect and new ways to use those collections.

In this entertaining, amusing, and sometimes enlightening kit girls get to meet some of Queen Calliope’s subjects, they get to explore the endless possibilities of collecting, and they get to try all kinds of puzzles, games, and more. For example readers can explore the world of color. Which color “makes you feel best” and which one “makes you feel most uncomfortable or bores you silly.” Figure out the answers to these questions and you will discover all kinds of interesting things about yourself.

Try your hand at figuring out some rebus puzzles, tell a story, and see how many of the “Collect-me-nots” items you can find. Some of them are harder to get, and if you do get them you will get more points for doing so. Items that you need to find include price tags, a twisty-tie creation, and an autograph by someone famous.

With all kinds of activities to try, a packet of stickers to use, and four collectible pompom c’lectomaniacs to keep, this kit is sure to entertain girls for hours at a time. The kit would be perfect to share during a sleep-over, and girls might like to try their hand at making a few c’lectomanics of their own. All they would need are colored pompoms, some foam, and some googly eyes.

Action Alert

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) needs your help. The President's proposed fiscal year 2009 budget released in February eliminates the Inexpensive Book Distribution Program, which is the RIF Book Distribution Program. Unless Congress reinstates funding for this program, RIF will be unable to distribute 16 million books annually to the nation's youngest and most at-risk children. RIF serves 4.6 million children. Please click on the link below to visit the RIF Action Alert page so you can make your voice heard and support their efforts.
