So often we are such a hurry to get on with our lives that we forget to take the time to look at the wonders around us. When was the last time you looked at a flower in a garden? When was the last time you stopped to watch a butterfly fly cross your path?

In this beautifully presented book Yvonne Winer combines her image-rich verse with Karen Lloyd-Jones’ stunning artwork to give us a portrait of fifteen different kinds of butterflies. The butterflies come from a variety of habitats from countries around the world. For each butterfly the author presents her readers with a little piece of descriptive verse which is accompanied by one of Karen Lloyd-Jones’ stunningly colorful and detail-rich paintings. To supplement the verse, the author has written some notes, which can be found at the back of the book, to provide readers with more information about each of the butterfly species mentioned in the book. She also takes the time to mention that many butterfly species are in danger of disappearing all together because of habitat loss.

Action Alert

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) needs your help. The President's proposed fiscal year 2009 budget released in February eliminates the Inexpensive Book Distribution Program, which is the RIF Book Distribution Program. Unless Congress reinstates funding for this program, RIF will be unable to distribute 16 million books annually to the nation's youngest and most at-risk children. RIF serves 4.6 million children. Please click on the link below to visit the RIF Action Alert page so you can make your voice heard and support their efforts.
