Board Book (Series)
Ages 2 to 4
Simon and Schuster, 2002, 0-689-85088-3
Olivia the pig is back and this time she is here to help us learn some basic concepts about opposites. The wonderful thing is that she not only shows us that the opposite of up is down but she is also manages to make every set of opposites uniquely Olivia-ish which means that they have a certain flair and a smattering of the diva style that we have come to expect from Olivia. Olivia also puts her own twist on things making the “quiet” and “loud” set work the way she wants it to work despite the fact that her partner in this demonstration is a large and very loud lion.
Perfectly chosen sets of words and Ian Falconer’s wonderful illustrations make this board book a fitting title for very young children who will, one can be sure, grow to become firm Olivia fans.
