A little mouse and his mother are walking home one early evening and as they walk through the woods, along the beach and in the meadows they see lots of animal parents putting their children to bed. Each one of the parents tells their children what they will do for them. Mama Bird will fly to find the "finest food" for her babies while Mama Rabbit will dig a wonderful underground home for her children. Each time the little mouse hears these words of love he tells his mother how very special the other animal children must be for their parents to do so much for them.
When they are finally home Little Mouse wonders if he is special the way the other animal children are. After all his mother can't fly, burrow or run fast. In reply Mother Mouse soon shows her little son how much she does for him and how special he is.
This loving and warmly illustrated book reminds children that they are all special. Like Little Mouse readers are able to see that their mothers do all sorts of wonderful things for them to show their love.
