Bear At Home

Stella Blackstone

Illustrated by Debbie Harter

Picture Book (Series)

Ages 2 to 4

Barefoot Books, 2001, 1-84148-701-5

Welcome to Bear’s house. He has the key to the front door in his big paw, and we are going to go inside the pretty yellow house to see what it looks like.

What do you see when the door is opened? Why, Bear’s black and white striped cat is looking out at us. Let’s go in shall we?

Soon we are able to visit Bear’s kitchen, his dining room, his fabulous playroom, and his living room. Upstairs we see his library, his colorful bathroom, and his bedroom. Bear not only shows us the rooms, but he also shows us what he likes to do in each one as well.

This bright, cheerful, and winsome picture book draws little children in, taking them to Bear’s house and encouraging them to experience the visit using their eyes and their imaginations. Using bright colors in a multimedia format, the illustrator has created art which children will find hard to resist.

This is one in a series of delightful picture books which feature Bear as the main character.

Action Alert

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) needs your help. The President's proposed fiscal year 2009 budget released in February eliminates the Inexpensive Book Distribution Program, which is the RIF Book Distribution Program. Unless Congress reinstates funding for this program, RIF will be unable to distribute 16 million books annually to the nation's youngest and most at-risk children. RIF serves 4.6 million children. Please click on the link below to visit the RIF Action Alert page so you can make your voice heard and support their efforts.
