Babymouse: Monster Mash

Jennifer L. Holm and Matthew Holm

Graphic Novel (Series)

Ages 7 to 10

Random House, 2008, 978-0-375-84387-7

It is almost Halloween, and Babymouse is getting into the spirit of things. She and her friend Wilson get together to work on their scary costumes, and they have a great time. Then Babymouse’s mother tells her that she can have a party after trick-or-treating. Babymouse is delighted, but her guest list does get a little out of hand. Things get much worse when Felicia Furrypaws, Babymouse’s bete noire, invites herself to the party. She then proceeds to tell Babymouse what kind of costume to wear. According to Felicia, girls should only wear “pretty” costumes and not scary ones. Babymouse does not want to be a fairy for Halloween, but she allows Felicia to bully her into it.

And, that's not all. In fact, Felicia proceeds to take over Babymouse’s Halloween completely, spoiling everything she touches, and ruining Halloween for Babymouse and for other people as well. Surely, there is something that Babymouse can do to rid herself of the annoying cat?

In this ninth Babymouse adventure, our cupcake-loving heroine once again struggles with the trials that plague many elementary school children. It is not easy to assert yourself when there are bullies around, and sometimes these strong willed people make you do things that you sincerely regret. Readers will be delighted to see how Babymouse finds her own way, despite the efforts of Felicia Furrypaws.
