A Wild Father’s Day

Sean Callahan

Illustrated by Daniel Howarth

Picture Book

Ages 4 to 6

Albert Whitman, 2009, 978-0-8075-2293-6

On Father’s Day Daddy’s son and daughter run into his room and give him a card, bright and early. In the card are the words “Have a wild Father’s Day!” Being a wonderful father, Daddy suggests that he and the children “act like animals all day long.”

Together Daddy and his children hop like kangaroos, they stretch like cats, they run like cheetahs, they swing like monkeys, and much more. In fact, they have a wonderful time together, until, worn out after a busy day, the children sleep like a pair of “tired little puppies.”

In this picture book children see this daddy and his children not just as humans having fun, but they also see the happy threesome as animals, hopping, running, swinging, and snacking. Splendid sound words can be found throughout the book, and children will enjoy saying these words as the book is read to them. Best of all they will see how wonderful daddies are.
